The AJ Family
Like every lamp in the AJ family, the AJ Table was born from Jacobsen's commission for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen — a project in which he controlled everything, from the building's architecture to its furniture, fittings, and light. The AJ Table, along with the floor, mini table, and wall lamps, could be found throughout the hotel after its inauguration in 1960, finished in copper and stainless steel.
The AJ lamp has since become one of the most recognised designs in the world — its precise geometry, balancing straight lines with carefully considered curves, as relevant today as it was in 1957.
The Design
The AJ Table emits soft, downward-directed light from a white-painted inner shade. The shade can be tilted approximately 90 degrees up and down, allowing light distribution to be adjusted to suit the setting — making it equally at home on a desk or bedside table. Available in White, Black, Pale Petroleum, Warm Sand, Soft Lemon, Electric Orange, Dusty Blue, Warm Grey, and Stainless Steel Polished.
