A Chair Born from the Hunt
The BM1106 Huntsman Chair was designed by Børge Mogensen in 1950 for a hunting cabin exhibition at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Furniture Guild — a setting that demanded furniture both rugged and refined. Carl Hansen & Søn reintroduced it in 2019, unchanged in character.
Craftsmanship & Finish
Detailed craftsmanship and pure function combined. The design holds two qualities in tension: structural simplicity and material richness. The solid wood frame — available in oak or walnut — is spare and precise. Against it, the saddle leather seat is held taut by buckles and brackets in stainless steel or brass, introducing a craft detail that rewards close attention. The contrast wood wedge in the legs — always in the opposing timber — is a further quiet flourish.
Equally suited to a dining room or a study, the open frame and angled seat allow for a range of sitting positions, making it as practical as it is considered.
