Configuration 2 takes the BM0253 system in a wider, more expansive direction — mixing full-width and narrower shelves to create a stepped, asymmetric profile that commands a long wall. Designed by Børge Mogensen in 1953 as part of his ‘building furniture’ concept, the system was brought into production by Carl Hansen & Søn faithful to Mogensen’s original vision: tubular steel uprights, FSC™-certified oak or walnut shelves, and a modular logic that lets each configuration stand on its own or grow over time.

Configuration 2 — Open Shelving, Wide Format

An entirely open configuration that prioritises display. Three full-width 150cm shelves span the main bay, while two narrower 79cm shelves extend the system laterally — creating a stepped, asymmetric profile that works well against a long wall or as a room divider. There are no doors or cabinets here: everything is on show, and the system is all the more striking for it.

The mix of shelf widths gives the configuration a visual rhythm that a uniform run of shelving cannot achieve — and leaves room to grow the system further if needed.
