The BM0253 Shelving System was designed by Børge Mogensen in 1953 as part of his ‘building furniture’ concept — storage that adapts to changing needs rather than dictating them. Carl Hansen & Søn brought it into production for the first time, faithful to Mogensen’s original vision: tubular steel uprights, FSC™-certified oak or walnut shelves, and a modular logic that lets each configuration stand on its own or grow over time.

Configuration 5 — Cabinet Sideboard

The most minimal configuration in the BM0253 range — a single cabinet within the tubular steel frame, with no open shelving above. Two doors conceal the full cabinet interior, including two internal shelves, making it a self-contained storage unit that works equally well as a standalone sideboard or as the foundation for a larger system built upward over time.

On 20cm legs, the cabinet sits clear of the floor with the same lightness that defines the wider BM0253 range. Available in Oak Oil or Walnut Oil with Black or Grey frame — with a choice of veneered or painted MDF doors.
