Artek Karuselli Lounge Chair
Manufacturer: Artek | Designer: Yrjö Kukkapuro, 1964
The Karuselli is Yrjö Kukkapuro's masterpiece — a lounge chair shaped entirely around the human body. The story goes that the form came to Kukkapuro while making snow chairs with his daughter; he then spent several years refining the dimensions until he arrived at the iconic shell in 1964. The fibreglass base and shell follow the body's natural posture, while the swivel and swing mechanism allows the chair to move with the sitter rather than against them. An immediate international success: Gio Ponti chose it for the cover of Domus in 1966, and Sir Terence Conran named it his favourite chair. Available in black or white shell with leather upholstery.
- Dimensions: Width: 80 cm × Depth: 97.5 cm × Height: 92 cm | Seat height: 37 cm
- Base and shell: Fibreglass
- Brace: Steel
- Seat surface: Leather upholstery with PU foam padding
- Mechanism: Swivel and swing
Pairs naturally with the Karuselli Ottoman.
