Side Table 606 was designed by Aino Aalto during the period she and Alvar were working on the Paimio Sanatorium — originally conceived as a stool for changing shoes, it has since proved itself as one of the most quietly practical pieces in the Artek catalogue. The three-quarter-moon steel tube base allows it to slide flush against an armchair, sofa, or bed, while the birch plywood top keeps it light and easy to move. A single-finish design that earns its place through usefulness rather than gesture.
