Artek A333 Turnip Pendant Light

The A333 is known as the “Turnip” — a nickname that captures its rounded, organic silhouette. Designed by Aalto for the National Pensions Institute building in Helsinki, it is formed from a hand-spun steel shade, painted white, with a ring in either brass plated or white painted steel. The defining detail is a row of circular recesses near the top of the shade: when lit, light escapes through these openings, tracing the pendant’s form and creating a soft, characterful glow. A pendant with a quieter presence than the Beehive or Hand Grenade, but no less considered.
