Artek 60 Low Stool

Stool 60 is the most elemental piece in Aalto’s catalogue — a round birch seat on three L-legs, with no connecting elements between them. The L-leg itself was a breakthrough: Aalto developed a method of bending solid wood at a right angle without it splitting, a technique that had defeated furniture makers for generations. The legs mount directly to the underside of the seat, keeping the construction as honest as the form. Stack them and they spiral into a tower; use one as a seat, a side table, or a display surface. Manufactured in 42 production steps at the A-Factory in Turku, Finland, and shipped unassembled in a Carry Away package.
Available in birch veneer, a wide range of lacquer colours, white HPL, black linoleum, honey stained, and stained walnut.
