Artek A331 Beehive Pendant Light

The A331 is known as the “Beehive” — a nickname that describes both its shape and the logic of its construction. Designed by Aalto for the University of Jyväskylä in 1953, it is built from a hand-spun aluminium shade encircled by several rows of perforated steel rings. Those rings are the defining detail: they break up the light into a warm, diffuse glow that fills a room without glare, while giving the pendant a strong sculptural presence whether lit or unlit.
