The Standard Chair, Refreshed in Plastic
Chairs take the most stress on their back legs, where they bear the weight of the user's upper body. The engineer and designer Jean Prouvé illustrated this simple insight in his distinctive design for the Standard chair: while steel tubing suffices for the front legs, since they bear a relatively light load, the back legs are made of voluminous hollow sections that transfer the primary stress to the floor.
Standard SP (Siège en Plastique) brings the iconic chair up to date without changing anything about its form. A seat and backrest in robust ASA plastic — available in a carefully chosen colour palette — gives the Standard SP a contemporary look. The plastic parts can be combined in various colours and easily switched out or replaced.
Suitable for outdoor use on a temporary or seasonal basis — after prolonged exposure to the elements, clean and store in a dry, sheltered place to ensure lasting use and avoid any deterioration in appearance.
