Vitra Cone Chair
Manufacturer: Vitra | Designer: Verner Panton, 1958
The First Full Expression
Few chairs announce themselves quite like the Cone. Designed in 1958, it arrived as a provocation — an inverted funnel balanced on a slender four-star steel base, upholstered from base to backrest, with no conventional frame in sight. It was the first full expression of Verner Panton's design language, and it remains one of the most recognisable silhouettes in twentieth-century furniture.
The rear half of the cone rises to form a generous semi-circular backrest, which doubles as an armrest depending on how you choose to sit. A soft seat cushion sits at the top of the shell, and the entire body is padded and upholstered throughout — comfort and sculptural form in equal measure.
Available with a stainless steel satin-finish or powder-coated base, and upholstered in a selection of fabrics or Leather Premium — adaptable to any interior, from the quietly considered to the boldly curated.
For more information on available fabrics and leathers, visit the Vitra Colour & Material Library.
