Vitra Panton Chair Classic
Manufacturer: Vitra | Designer: Verner Panton, 1959
Design History in High Gloss
Verner Panton spent years searching for a manufacturer willing to realise his vision of a chair made from a single piece of plastic. He found that partner in Vitra in 1963, and the Panton Chair was first presented in 1967 — immediately hailed as a sensation and awarded numerous prizes. One of the earliest models is now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The Panton Chair Classic is the original version: rigid polyurethane foam with a high-gloss lacquer finish, available in Black, Red and White. Where the standard Panton Chair uses dyed-through polypropylene, the Classic retains the material and finish of the first production runs — a more uncompromising object, and a more direct piece of design history.
Specifications
- Dimensions — W50 × D60 × H83cm (seat height 41.5cm)
- Shell — rigid polyurethane foam
- Surface — glossy lacquer finish
- Colours — Black, Red and White
Also available in dyed-through polypropylene as the Vitra Panton Chair. Part of the Vitra Panton Chair, Vitra Dining Chairs and Dining Chairs collections.
