Vitra Eames Plastic Side Chair RE DSR

DSR — Dining Height Side Chair, Rod Base
The Eames Plastic Side Chair RE DSR is the latest evolution of one of the most significant chairs of the twentieth century. First developed in 1950 for the Museum of Modern Art's Low-Cost Furniture Design competition, the Eames shell chair was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair — a landmark in both design history and production technology.
The DSR (Dining Height Side Chair Rod Base) pairs the organically shaped shell with Eames's signature Eiffel wire base: a four-legged rod structure with cross struts that gives the chair its open, sculptural quality. The shell is now produced from recycled post-consumer plastic, sourced from household packaging collected through Germany's Yellow Bag (Gelber Sack) scheme. Using this recyclate in place of virgin plastic significantly reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions. At end of life, the shells are 100% recyclable. Due to the nature of the recycled material, shell colours carry very subtle specks of pigment — a characteristic of the RE range.
The unupholstered version with powder-coated base is suitable for utilisation outdoors on a temporary or seasonal basis, following care instructions. After prolonged exposure to the elements, clean and store away in a dry, sheltered place to ensure lasting use and avoid any deterioration in appearance.
