Vitra Eames Plastic Side Chair RE LSR Full Upholstery

Manufacturer: Vitra | Designer: Charles & Ray Eames, 1950

The LSR was a favourite of Charles and Ray Eames themselves — they used the low lounge chair throughout the Eames House in Pacific Palisades, pulling it into conversation wherever it was needed. Designed in 1950 for MoMA's 'Low-Cost Furniture Design' competition, it was among the very first industrially produced plastic chairs ever made.

This RE edition updates the shell in recycled post-consumer polypropylene, sourced from household packaging collected through Germany's Yellow Bag scheme. The shift from virgin plastic meaningfully reduces both emissions and energy consumption in production. Due to the nature of the recyclate, each shell carries faint specks of pigment — a quiet mark of its material origin. At the end of its life, the shell is 100% recyclable.

Has an upholstered seat with piped edges in Hopsak, a durable polyamide plain-weave available in a range of duotone colourways.

Available unupholstered: Eames Plastic Side Chair RE LSR. Part of the Eames Plastic Chair RE collection.

Please note: this is a very low chair. LSR = Lounge Height Side Chair, Rod Base.
