Plywood Group — LCW Lounge Chair Wood

The LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) is the purest expression of the Plywood Group — seat, back, and base all in moulded plywood, with no upholstery and no metal. The organic shell conforms to the body without padding, and the all-wood construction gives the chair a warmth and coherence that has made it one of the most enduring chair designs of the twentieth century.

Charles and Ray Eames spent many years experimenting with techniques for producing three-dimensionally moulded plywood seat shells that conformed to the contours of the human body. The result was the Plywood Group — a family of chairs that have matured into classics while retaining an appearance that still looks contemporary today. Seat and backrest connect to the base via shock mounts — bonded rubber and metal connectors that allow a slight, natural flex. Available in black ash, natural ash, or black pigmented walnut.
