Plywood Group — LCM Calf’s Skin
The LCM Calf’s Skin is the upholstered version of the Lounge Chair Metal — the organic plywood shells covered in calfskin hide over a thin wedge of foam, adding comfort while preserving the chair’s slim, graphic profile. The seat and backrest connect to the chromed or powder-coated tubular steel base via shock mounts, creating a tension between warm hide and cool metal that gives the chair its distinctive character.
Charles and Ray Eames spent many years experimenting with techniques for producing three-dimensionally moulded plywood seat shells that conformed to the contours of the human body. The result was the Plywood Group — a family of chairs that have matured into classics while retaining an appearance that still looks contemporary today. Compact in proportion, the LCM is especially well suited to smaller lounges and lobbies.
