DSW — Dining Height Side Chair, Wood Base

The Eames Plastic Side Chair RE DSW is the latest evolution of one of the most significant chairs of the twentieth century. First developed in 1950 for the Museum of Modern Art's Low-Cost Furniture Design competition, the Eames shell chair was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair — a landmark in both design history and production technology.

The DSW (Dining Height Side Chair Wood Base) pairs the organically shaped shell with a wooden dowel base in maple or ash — a warmer, more domestic character than the wire-base versions. The shell is produced from recycled post-consumer plastic, sourced from household packaging collected through Germany's Yellow Bag (Gelber Sack) scheme. Using this recyclate in place of virgin plastic significantly reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions. At end of life, the shells are 100% recyclable. Due to the nature of the recycled material, shell colours carry very subtle specks of pigment — a characteristic of the RE range.

Origin of wood: ash (Fraxinus excelsior) and maple (Acer platanoides) from Western Europe and/or Poland.
