Folke Pålsson designed the J77 for FDB — the Danish Consumers’ Cooperative — in the 1960s, drawing on the Windsor chair tradition to create something wide-seated, spindle-backed and immediately comfortable. The slightly conical legs give it a quiet stability; the curved backrest does the rest. It became a Scandinavian classic, and HAY’s relaunch keeps faith with the original while bringing it into a considered palette of oak and beech finishes.

Oak variants are crafted in solid oak with oak veneer seat and backrest. Coloured variants use solid beech with beech veneer throughout, finished in water-based lacquer. All versions are FSC™-certified and EU Ecolabelled.
