Børge Mogensen designed the J41 during his tenure as design director at FDB — the Danish Consumers’ Cooperative — with a characteristic desire to create something simple, practical and built to last. The slightly slanted backrest and widely-spaced spindles give it an open, uncluttered quality; the solid wood construction gives it the warmth and durability to go with it. HAY’s relaunch keeps the original proportions intact while offering it in a range of oak and beech finishes.

Oak variants are crafted in solid oak with oak veneer seat and backrest. Coloured variants use solid beech with beech veneer throughout, finished in water-based lacquer. All versions are FSC™-certified.
