Jørgen Bækmark designed the J104 at FDB — the Danish Consumers’ Cooperative — with a brief to create something that sat between a dining chair and an easy chair. The result is broader and more enveloping than a typical dining chair, with a generously wide seat and a curved spindle back that invites you to settle in. Bækmark trained as a cabinet maker and later became head of the FDB furniture department; his designs are distinguished by a lightness of touch that makes the J104 feel substantial without being heavy.

HAY’s relaunch is crafted in solid oak or solid beech, with veneer seat and backrest to match. All versions are FSC™-certified.
