Carl Hansen PK52A Student Desk

Manufacturer: Carl Hansen & Søn | Designer: Poul Kjærholm, 1955

A Desk That Earns Its Lightness

The PK52A Student Desk was designed by Poul Kjærholm for the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he was a member of the academic staff. Like its larger sibling the PK52 Professor Desk, it brings wood and steel together in a construction that is pared down to the point where nothing can be removed without losing something. The black powder-coated steel frame is separated from the oak veneer top by metal ferrules — a detail that keeps the materials distinct and gives the desk its characteristic floating quality.

The tabletop is reversible, so each face can serve its own purpose — one side for work, the other for dining or entertaining. An optional drawer module in solid wood and veneer adds storage without adding visual weight. The PK52A works equally well as a desk, a dining table, or a worktable in a studio or office.

Craftsmanship & Finish

  • Dimensions — W141.5 × D85 × H72cm
  • Tabletop — Oak veneer (reversible); oiled, lacquered, or black-painted
  • Base — Black powder-coated steel
  • Drawer module — Solid wood and veneer (optional)

Please note: Solid wood is a living material that gives and absorbs moisture from its surroundings. To prevent cracks, please avoid sudden changes in humidity and temperature. Cracks caused by desiccation are not covered under warranty.

Also available in the larger PK52 Professor Desk. Add the optional PK115 drawer module, available separately. Part of the Carl Hansen Home Office collection.
