Poul Kjærholm was one of the defining figures of Danish Modern. With a functionalist approach to furniture design, he cultivated simplicity and lightness — and excelled at combining his favourite material, steel, with organic counterparts. Both qualities are reflected beautifully in the PK1 Dining Chair.
Originally made with wicker, the PK1 is available today in an updated version with an FSC-certified woven paper cord seat, which looks equally beautiful from both the front and the back. The weaving technique has been faithfully recreated by Carl Hansen & Søn in accordance with Kjærholm's original design — it takes a skilled craftsman 15 hours to weave each seat by hand. The combination of industrial steel and hand-woven paper cord exudes lightness and elegance, and the PK1 is today considered a design icon for the way it balances aesthetics, comfort and stability.

The frame is available in stainless steel or black powder coated steel, each lending a distinct character to the chair's precise, minimal silhouette.
