Carl Hansen OW224 Rungstedlund 145cm Dining Table Extendable to 275cm
Manufacturer: Carl Hansen & Søn | Designer: Ole Wanscher, 1962
An elliptical dining table with an 18th-century sensibility
Ole Wanscher trained under Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and spent much of his career studying English furniture of the 1700s — its proportions, its restraint, its respect for material. The OW224 Rungstedlund, designed in 1962 and originally intended for the house that now serves as a museum, carries that influence quietly. The silhouette is softly elliptical, the legs square in section but gently sloped on their inner faces and rounded on the outer — a detail that gives the table an almost floating quality without drawing attention to itself.
The tabletop is finished in bookmatched crown-cut FSC™-certified oak veneer, where the grain is mirrored across the centre line to create a natural symmetry in the surface. It is a considered choice: veneer allows the grain pattern to be controlled in a way solid wood cannot, and the result is a tabletop that reads as a single, unified piece of material.
Craftsmanship & Finish
The OW224 seats six at 145cm and can be extended with up to two leaves to reach 275cm, seating up to ten. Extension leaves are available in oak veneer to match the table, or in grey or black MDF. We recommend ordering leaves at the same time as the table for the closest possible match.
- Dimensions — W145 × D105 × H72cm (extends to 275cm with two leaves)
- Tabletop — FSC™-certified oak veneer
- Leaves (for table centre) — oak veneer or MDF (sold separately)
- Base — FSC™-certified solid oak
- Finish — Oak Oil
Please note: Wood is a living material that responds to changes in humidity and temperature. To prevent cracks, avoid sudden environmental changes. Cracks caused by desiccation are not covered under warranty.
Extend your table with the OW224I extension leaf, available separately. Pairs beautifully with the Carl Hansen dining chairs.
