A Credenza That Rewards Closer Inspection
The CH825 was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1959 as one of several credenzas that, with their calm exterior and considered interior, became sought after at auction many years later. Carl Hansen & Søn relaunched the CH825 in 2014, on the centenary of Wegner’s birth, and the design needed no revision.
When the two roller shutter doors are slid to one side, they disappear behind the interior backing and the credenza opens fully. Closed, the doors form a continuous veneer surface with a vertical grain texture — calm and uninterrupted. The grip is a vertically placed piece of wood attached through a thin square steel plate to the solid front edge of the door: a detail that is functional, precise, and entirely in keeping with Wegner’s approach.
The interior is divided into three compartments: the two outer ones each have two adjustable shelves, and the middle has four pull-out trays. The interior is always solid oak, regardless of the exterior finish chosen.
