The Chair That Earns Its Name
The CH78 was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1954 as a lighter, more sculptural alternative to the heavy lounge chairs of the period. Where most chairs of its era relied on mass for comfort, the Mama Bear achieves it through geometry — a series of curves that follow the body rather than resist it. The high back, gently angled seat, and enveloping armrests create a chair that feels protective without being imposing.
The frame, legs, and armrests are crafted from solid FSC™-certified wood, with seat and back in solid beech and foam. An optional neck pillow in leather or fabric completes the design — sold separately.
