The CH36 with Arms — Same Principles, Added Comfort

The CH37 is Hans J. Wegner’s armchair version of the CH36, designed in 1962 and rooted in the same Shaker-influenced principles: simplicity, honesty of construction, and careful attention to proportion. The addition of armrests changes the character of the chair without altering its essential lightness — the gently rounded, flat arms are fixed to the front legs with a distinctive cap, adding support without adding bulk.

The legs are vertical and round, the backrest arches backwards — more at the top than the bottom — to follow the natural curve of the spine. The seat is hand-woven in paper cord, 120 metres per chair, a material that is both durable and tactile with a lifespan of up to 50 years before replacement is needed. The result is a chair that is light enough to move easily around a table, and comfortable enough to stay in long after the meal is done.
