A 1957 Classic, Reissued Without Revision

The CH33P was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1957 and manufactured by Carl Hansen & Søn for a decade before production paused. It was reissued in 2012 — a gap of around 45 years — and the design needed no revision. The proportions are precise: height, depth, and angles carefully calibrated to fit the body, with the dimensions of each wooden element chosen for structural necessity rather than visual effect alone.

The backrest is a form-pressed veneer shell with characteristic round cover caps — a quietly distinctive detail that gives the chair its identity. The solid wood frame has a sculptural, organic quality typical of Wegner’s best work: curved where it needs to be, restrained where it doesn’t. The upholstered seat in foam, covered in a wide choice of fabrics or leathers, adds comfort without softening the chair’s character.
