Carl Hansen CH327 Dining Table 248cm
Manufacturer: Carl Hansen & SΓΈn | Designer: Hans J. Wegner, 1962
A Floating Tabletop, Engineered in Solid Wood
The CH327 dining table was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1962 and remains one of his most structurally inventive pieces. The solid wood tabletop appears to float above the base β an effect created by the side rails that run beneath it, joined higher at the legs and narrowing between them to maximise leg room. The wood grain follows the length of the table, and three distinct rails support the top from below, each flanked by a side rail that creates the characteristic gap between tabletop and base.
For support, two detachable legs at each end are connected by a cross-stretcher. The legs and stretchers ensure transverse stability while the side rails do the same along the length. The result is a table that is as considered in its engineering as it is in its appearance.
Craftsmanship & Finish
The CH327 248cm seats eight and can be extended at each end with a 40cm wide extension plate to seat up to twelve. A 190cm version seating six is also available, extending to ten. The elegant CH327 is equally suited as a dining table, meeting table, or desk.
