Vitra Eames Stools
Manufacturer: Vitra | Designer: Charles & Ray Eames, 1960
Designed for the Rockefeller Center
In 1960, the Eames Office was commissioned by Time Inc. to outfit the interiors of three lobbies in New York's Rockefeller Center. Alongside the Lobby Chairs, Charles and Ray Eames designed a series of lathe-turned solid wood stools for the project. The seat of each stool is concave — deep enough to sit on comfortably, but shallow enough that a teacup placed on it won't tilt and spill, making them equally useful as occasional tables. The three models — A, B and C — are differentiated by the distinctive profiles of their shafts.
Available in natural chestnut with a hard wax oil finish, or dark walnut with an oiled finish. The wood origin is traceable: chestnut (Castanea sativa) from Poland; walnut (Juglans nigra) from Hungary.
Specifications
- Dimensions — Ø33 × H38cm
- Material — laminated solid wood sections, lathe-turned
- Finishes — Natural Chestnut (hard wax oiled), Dark Walnut (oiled)
- Models — A, B, C — differentiated by shaft profile
Part of the Vitra Eames Accessories collection and the Low Stools collection.
