Carl Hansen ND52-2 Vita 2 Seater Sofa
Manufacturer: Carl Hansen & Søn | Designer: Nanna Ditzel & Jørgen Ditzel, 1952
A Sculptural Departure from Postwar Functionalism
The ND52 Vita Sofa was designed by Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel in 1952 as a deliberate departure from the strict geometry of postwar functionalism. Where the dominant furniture of the era was angular and restrained, the Ditzels responded with something altogether more sculptural — a softly curved, high-backed open shell that appears almost to float above its exposed solid wood frame. It is a piece that feels both of its moment and entirely timeless.
The frame is crafted in solid wood, left exposed to reveal the quality of its construction. The seat cushion, backrest, and buttons are hand-upholstered in fabric or leather — tight, precise work that gives the ND52 its characteristic lightness and finish. Understated and elegant, it works equally well in private homes and contract settings.
Available in a wide range of Carl Hansen fabrics and leathers, and in five FSC™-certified oak finishes — Oak Soap, Oak Oil, Oak White Oil, Oak Black Lacquer, and Oak Lacquer — or two walnut finishes — Walnut Oil and Walnut Lacquer. Contact our team if you would like fabric or leather samples.
