A Sofa for Smaller Spaces, Generous in Character
Wegner designed the CH72 in 1952, the same year it was exhibited at the Danish Furniture Design exhibition in Copenhagen. It was conceived as a sofa for smaller spaces — compact in footprint, but generous in character. The fully upholstered frame flows continuously from back to seat, and the slim tapered legs and wooden armrests give it a sculptural lightness that reads well from every angle, making it a natural choice for open-plan rooms where the back of the sofa is on show.
The construction is technically demanding, particularly at the junction where the upholstery meets the solid wood armrests — a detail that rewards close inspection. The loose seat cushion adds comfort without disrupting the clean silhouette.
