Vitra Gueridon Bas Coffee Table

Manufacturer: Vitra | Designer: Jean Prouvé, 1944

Wood, Metal, and a Low Centre of Gravity

In the early 1940s, Jean ProuvĂ© began to work more extensively with wood. The GuĂ©ridon Bas has a heavy top in solid oak or American walnut resting on three legs in the same wood, joined together by a robust connecting element in bent sheet metal. The result is a low coffee table with a strong material presence — substantial without being heavy.

The dark finish version harks back to an original made from tropical wood, known as the Table Africaine. Both versions are available in natural oak, dark oak, or American walnut.

Specifications

  • Dimensions — Ø79.8 × H34.6cm
  • Top & legs — solid oak, natural oiled; solid oak, dark oiled; or solid American walnut, natural oiled (legs matched to top)
  • Connecting element — bent sheet metal, powder-coated smooth in deep black
  • Wood origin — oak (Quercus robur) from Western Europe and/or Poland; American walnut (Juglans nigra) from the USA

Also available as the Vitra Guéridon Dining Table. Part of the Vitra Jean Prouvé Collection, Vitra Coffee Tables and Coffee Tables collections.
