Vitra Amoebe Lounge Chair - Display

Manufacturer: Vitra | Designer: Verner Panton, 1970

The Amoebe in Volo 28 Stone Grey

The Amoebe was born from one of the most radical interiors of the twentieth century. Created in 1970 for Verner Panton's legendary Visiona II installation β€” a psychedelic, immersive environment staged aboard an exhibition ship at the Cologne Furniture Fair β€” it was conceived as a low-slung lounge sculpture that dissolved the boundary between furniture and space.

The seat and backrest form a single sculptural unity, its organic silhouette β€” as the name suggests β€” drawn from the form of single-celled organisms. Close to the floor and generously padded throughout, it invites a particular kind of ease: unhurried, enveloping, entirely its own.

This piece is upholstered in Volo 28 Stone Grey, a warm, understated tone that suits the chair's sculptural form beautifully. It is currently on display at our showroom in Hessle, East Yorkshire β€” we’d love for you to come in and try it.

Specifications

  • Dimensions β€” W65 Γ— D86 Γ— H87cm (seat height 35cm)
  • Frame β€” laminated
  • Upholstery β€” polyurethane foam
  • Cover β€” Volo 28 Stone Grey
