Louis Poulsen PH Louvre Pendant Light
Manufacturer: Louis Poulsen | Designer: Poul Henningsen
Poul Henningsen began his collaboration with Louis Poulsen in the mid-1920s, driven by a single ambition: to eliminate glare, direct light precisely where it was needed, and produce soft, shadow-free illumination from an incandescent source. The PH Louvre was designed in 1957 for the Adventist Church in Skodsborg, Denmark — a commission that called for a fixture capable of filling a large interior with even, comfortable light. It is a refinement of an earlier design, the Spiral, which Henningsen had developed in 1942, and represents one of the most resolved expressions of his geometric approach to light control.
Thirteen spun aluminium shades are mounted on four supports in a globe-shaped arrangement. The geometry is based on the principle of illuminating all surfaces at the same angle — a calculation that produces 100% glare-free light and ensures uniform distribution across both walls and ceiling. Matt-painted undersurfaces absorb and diffuse; glossy top surfaces reflect — the interplay between the two creates a soft, even glow around the entire fixture.
The light source is an integrated LED, dimmable via Bluetooth using the Casambi app on a tablet or smartphone. Also available with a 3000K light source — contact us for details.
