Vitra Akari 25N Floor Lamp
Manufacturer: Vitra | Designer: Isamu Noguchi, 1951
The Akari 25N is the most monumental piece in the Akari Light Sculptures series β a floor lamp of extraordinary scale and presence. Its vast washi paper shade fills a room with warm, diffused light, transforming any interior into something quieter and more considered. A piece that commands space without imposing on it. Designed by Isamu Noguchi in 1951.
Each Akari luminaire is meticulously handcrafted at the Ozeki workshop, a traditional family-run company based in Gifu, Japan. Bamboo rods are stretched across Noguchiβs original wooden forms to create the framework, before strips of washi paper β derived from the bark of the mulberry tree β are glued to the bamboo ribbing. Once dry, the wooden form is removed and the shade folded into its final shape. Every piece carries a stylised sun-and-moon logo as a guarantee of authenticity.
