Poul Henningsen developed his three-shade system in 1925–26, first realised in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for the Paris Exhibition that year. The PH 3½-2½ Floor Lamp is a hybrid configuration: a 350mm top shade paired with the proportionally smaller lower shades from the PH 2½ family. In its current form it was reintroduced in 2002, and it remains one of the most considered floor lamps in the PH range — designed for spaces where general uplighting of a room is needed alongside a primary downward source.

Three mouth-blown three-layer white opal glass shades — glossy on the exterior, sandblasted matte on the underside — produce a soft, even, glare-free light distribution. The top plate, base, and stem are available in three finishes: high lustre chrome plated, black metallised, or brass metallised. The cord runs to a foot switch at floor level.
