Louis Poulsen PH 2/1 Pendant Light

Poul Henningsen began developing his three-shade system in 1925–26, first exhibited in Paris in cooperation with Louis Poulsen. The partnership continued until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, PH pursued a single goal: glare-free light that directs illumination where it is needed and creates soft, natural shadows. The PH 2/1 is part of a family that now numbers 30 lights — the product of a scientific approach to light that used the logarithmic spiral as its geometric basis, achieving even distribution of light across the entire curve of each shade.
The model numbers refer to shade size. The PH 2/1 uses an approximately 200mm top shade paired with lower shades from the 1/1 model — a ‘hybrid’ configuration introduced to allow the pendant to hang at lower heights without losing the integrity of the system.
Each shade is individually mouth-blown in opal three-layer glass — glossy on top, sandblasted matte on the underside — giving soft, uniform light distribution with no glare. Subtle variations in glass thickness and texture occur naturally as part of the glassblowing process, making each piece unique. The suspension is available in Brass Metallised, Black Metallised, or Chrome Plated.
