A Modern Chandelier

Øivind Slaatto designed the Patera in 2015 with a single ambition: to create a three-dimensional Sudoku. The result is a pendant built on the Fibonacci sequence — a mathematical structure that produces a different impression from every angle, and ensures no two views of the fixture are quite the same. Slaatto described it as the most complex light he had ever made, and the most poetic.

The Design

The Patera is a glowing sphere composed of small diamond-shaped cells, each precisely angled to capture light and shield the source from any viewing angle above 45 degrees. Every cell glows. Below 45 degrees, the cells open to direct light downward; a small amount is also sent upward to illuminate the ceiling. The result is 360-degree glare-free illumination — soft, even, and flattering from every position in the room.

Available in four sizes — D30cm, D45cm, D60cm, and D90cm — all in white matte finish. The D60cm is also available with an integrated LED light source in 2700K or 3000K. LED versions are dimmable via the Casambi Bluetooth app.
