A Modern Chandelier, Reimagined
The Patera Oval is Øivind Slaatto’s second interpretation of the pendant he first designed for Louis Poulsen in 2015 — the same Fibonacci sequence-based structure, the same hand-braided diamond-cell pattern, but resolved into a flat ellipsoid rather than a sphere. Where the original Patera commands a room, the Oval adapts to it — conceived specifically for spaces with lower ceilings or where headroom is a consideration, without sacrificing any of the original’s visual complexity.
The Design
The Patera Oval is a glowing ellipsoid composed of diamond-shaped cells, each angled to capture light and conceal the source from any viewing angle above 40 degrees. Below 40 degrees, the cells open to direct light downward through a round opening at the base, with a soft transition between direct and reflected light. A diffuser plate is included and can be fitted or removed depending on the space and preference.
The flat, minimalist profile works equally well hung low above a dining table — creating a generous sense of space between surface and ceiling — or suspended high in a larger room where its ellipsoid form reads as a quietly sculptural object.
Available with E27 (max 40W) or integrated LED in 2700K or 3000K. LED versions are dimmable via the Casambi Bluetooth app.
