Fritz Hansen Superellipse Dining Table

Manufacturer: Fritz Hansen | Designer: Piet Hein, Bruno Mathsson & Arne Jacobsen, 1968

The Superellipseβ„’ began not as a table but as a solution to a traffic problem. In the 1950s, Piet Hein was asked to design a roundabout for Sergels Torg in Stockholm β€” a space that was neither square nor circular. His answer was the superellipse: a geometric form that sits between the two, with none of the awkwardness of either. The shape proved so resolved, so naturally right, that it became a table. Available in five sizes from the compact B611 (seats 4) to the expansive B617 (seats 12), the Superellipse scales from an intimate dining room to a generous boardroom without losing its essential character β€” no obvious head, no hierarchy, just a table that works.

The tabletop is a 22mm laminated chipboard core, available in six Fenix laminate colours with a polished aluminium edge, or in clear lacquered walnut veneer with a matching veneer edge. The span legs are available in chromed steel or six powder-coated finishes. This table holds the EU Ecolabel (EU Flower) certification, meeting the highest environmental standards across its lifecycle.

  • B611: Length: 135cm Γ— Width: 90cm Γ— Height: 72cm β€” seats 4
  • B612: Length: 150cm Γ— Width: 100cm Γ— Height: 72cm β€” seats 6
  • B613: Length: 180cm Γ— Width: 120cm Γ— Height: 72cm β€” seats 8
  • B614: Length: 240cm Γ— Width: 120cm Γ— Height: 72cm β€” seats up to 10
  • B617: Length: 300cm Γ— Width: 130cm Γ— Height: 72cm β€” seats 12
  • Tabletop: 22mm laminated chipboard β€” Fenix laminate with aluminium edge, or walnut veneer with veneer edge
  • Base: Span legs β€” chromed steel or powder-coated steel
  • Certification: EU Ecolabel (EU Flower)

Part of the wider Fritz Hansen Table Series, the Superellipse pairs naturally with the iconic Series 7 chair or the full range of Fritz Hansen dining chairs.
