Paul McCobb understood that a shelf is never just a shelf. It occupies a room, defines a wall, and shapes the way a space feels. The MC520 is the large version of his Planner™ Shelving series — and the version that most fully demonstrates McCobb’s understanding of verticality. At 165cm, it commands a wall without closing it off, the cross brace holding the frame taut while the open shelves keep the composition light. McCobb knew that a tall piece could either anchor a room or overwhelm it; the MC520 does the former.
McCobb was self-taught, arriving in New York from Boston with an instinct for scale that no formal training could have sharpened further. He thought carefully about how furniture relates to the architecture around it — how height, depth, and negative space interact. The MC520 is the fullest expression of that thinking in the Planner™ series: generous in capacity, considered in every proportion.
