Paul McCobb understood that a shelf is never just a shelf. It occupies a room, defines a wall, and shapes the way a space feels. The MC500 is the small version of his Planner™ Shelving series — compact in height, uncompromising in detail. Without a cross brace, the design relies entirely on the precision of its construction: evenly spaced shelves, a powder-coated steel frame reduced to its thinnest possible section, and bevelled oak veneer shelves that fit the frame as though they grew there. Restraint, not reduction.
McCobb believed that good design should work at any scale. He was self-taught, moving from Boston to New York with little more than an instinct for proportion and a perfectionist's eye for how objects inhabit a room. The MC500 is that instinct made physical — a piece that earns its place without demanding attention.
