Fritz Hansen B611 Superellipse Dining Table
Manufacturer: Fritz Hansen | Designer: Piet Hein, Bruno Mathsson & Arne Jacobsen, 1968
The Superellipse™ began not as a table but as a solution to a traffic problem. In the 1950s, Piet Hein was asked to design a roundabout for Sergels Torg in Stockholm — a space that was neither square nor circular. His answer was the superellipse: a geometric form that sits between the two, with none of the awkwardness of either. The shape proved so resolved, so naturally right, that it became a table. The B611 seats four without an obvious head, making it as suited to a working lunch as to a dinner party.
The tabletop is a 22mm laminated chipboard core, available in six Fenix laminate colours with a polished aluminium edge, or in clear lacquered walnut veneer with a matching veneer edge. The span legs are available in chromed steel or six powder-coated finishes. This table holds the EU Ecolabel (EU Flower) certification, meeting the highest environmental standards across its lifecycle.
- Dimensions: Length: 135cm × Width: 90cm × Height: 72cm
- Seats: 4
- Tabletop: 22mm laminated chipboard — Fenix laminate with aluminium edge, or walnut veneer with veneer edge
- Base: Span legs — chromed steel or powder-coated steel
- Certification: EU Ecolabel (EU Flower)
