Louis Poulsen PH 80 Floor Lamp
Manufacturer: Louis Poulsen | Designer: Poul Henningsen
Few lamps carry as much history as the PH 80. Poul Henningsen spent his career pursuing a single idea: light that is generous, glare-free, and genuinely comfortable to live with. The three-shade system he developed in 1925 became the foundation for everything that followed — and the PH 80 is one of its most enduring expressions.
The name tells the story. Created in 1974, seven years after Henningsen's death, it was made to mark the 80th anniversary of his birth. The design honours his principles exactly: a logarithmic spiral at its core, shades that distribute light evenly across their full curvature, and a diffused glow that fills a room without ever demanding attention.
The Design
The original PH 80 is immediately recognisable — chrome stand, opal acrylic shades, and a red top reflector that casts a warm, amber-tinged light across the room. It's a lamp that feels alive in the evening. The All Black and All White versions take a quieter approach: a white top reflector in place of the red, a matte-black or all-white stand, and a smoother base finish. Same principle, different mood — one graphic and considered, the other clean and minimal.
