Louis Poulsen PH 5-4½ Pendant Light
Manufacturer: Louis Poulsen | Designer: Poul Henningsen
Poul Henningsen developed his three-shade system in 1925–1926, first realised in cooperation with Louis Poulsen for the Paris Exhibition. The system is built on the logarithmic spiral: every shade angle is calculated to redirect and soften the output of the bulb, eliminating glare and directing the majority of light downward. The PH 5-4½ is a development of that system scaled for high-ceiling spaces — first used for an exhibition hall in Copenhagen. A trumpet-shaped top shade directs light upward to illuminate the area above the fixture; three further spun aluminium shades on rolled aluminium coloured struts direct the majority of light downward. A blue spun aluminium anti-glare disc at the base and a base reflector protect against glare from all angles. The strongest light falls directly beneath the fixture. The shades have a matt white painted finish for comfortable, uniform light distribution.
- Light source: Max 1 × 70W E27 (not included)
- Shades: Spun aluminium, matt white painted
- Anti-glare disc: Blue spun aluminium
- Struts: Rolled aluminium, coloured
