Louis Poulsen PH 3/2 Pendant Light

Manufacturer: Louis Poulsen | Designer: Poul Henningsen

Poul Henningsen developed his three-shade system in 1925–26, first exhibited in Paris in cooperation with Louis Poulsen. The partnership continued until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, PH pursued a single goal: glare-free light, directed precisely where it is needed, with soft shadows. The PH 3/2 Pendant is part of a family that now numbers thirty lights β€” the product of a scientific approach that used the logarithmic spiral as its geometric basis, achieving even distribution of light across the entire curve of each shade.

The first shades were made of metal with a painted underside β€” white, gold, or silver depending on the quality of light desired. Glass was introduced later, allowing the pendant to illuminate the room as well as the surface below. The PH 3/2 Pendant uses that glass system: three mouth-blown opal shades, glossy on top and sandblasted matte on the underside, producing a soft, diffused light with no glare and no harsh shadows.

The model numbers refer to shade size. The PH 3/2 uses an approximately 300mm top shade paired with the proportionally smaller lower shades from the PH 2/2 β€” a β€˜hybrid’ configuration introduced to allow the pendant to hang at lower heights without losing the integrity of the system. Each shade reduces the amount of light equally, according to its distance from the source.

  • Light source: Max 1 Γ— 75W E27 (not included)
  • Shades: Mouth-blown three-layer white opal glass, glossy top / sandblasted matt underside
  • Suspension: Brass metallised, black metallised, or high lustre chrome plated brass
  • Cable: 3m | Canopy included
  • Weight: Max 1.5kg
  • IP20

Also available as the PH 2/1 Pendant Light. Part of the Louis Poulsen PH Lights collection.
