Louis Poulsen PH 3/2 Aged Brass Opal Table Lamp
Manufacturer: Louis Poulsen | Designer: Poul Henningsen
A Hybrid in Aged Brass
Poul Henningsen began developing his three-shade system in 1926 β a geometric approach to lighting in which every surface angle is calculated to redirect and soften the output of the bulb, eliminating glare while preserving warmth. The PH 3/2 was introduced a year later as a table lamp variant, and its βhybridβ designation reflects its construction: a 300mm top shade paired with the proportionally smaller lower shades from the PH 2/2 family. The result is a lamp that sits comfortably at table height without losing the integrity of the system.
Henningsen designed the PH 3/2 to create an island of light β a contained, warm pool of illumination suited to a bedside table, a dresser, or a windowsill. It remains one of the most considered table lamps in the PH range.
This version pairs an aged brass top shade and stem β a dark brown lacquered finish reminiscent of the original PH lamps from the 1920s β with mouth-blown three-layer opal glass shades. The brass carries fine hairlines and is lacquered to preserve its finish over time. The glass shades are glossy on the exterior and sandblasted matte within, producing a soft, even light distribution with no visible hot spots. The white-painted inner surface of the brass top shade directs a warm, mainly downward light.
