Louis Poulsen PH 2/1 Table Lamp
Manufacturer: Louis Poulsen | Designer: Poul Henningsen
Gold at the Paris Exhibition
Poul Henningsen developed his three-shade system in 1925, first realised in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for the Paris Exhibition that year. The lamp won gold. Its principle was straightforward but radical: use the geometry of a logarithmic spiral to distribute light evenly across every shade surface, eliminating glare and harsh shadow entirely. Henningsen spent the rest of his career refining that idea across dozens of designs.
The PH 2/1 designation refers to its shade sizes — a 200mm top shade paired with the lower shades from the PH 1/1. It is a compact, versatile table lamp that creates a contained pool of light without drawing attention to itself. Equally suited to a bedside table, a desk, or a shelf.
Three mouth-blown white opal glass shades direct the majority of light downward while producing a soft, diffused glow around the lamp. The glass is three-layered, ensuring an even, comfortable light distribution with no visible hot spots. The top plate, base, and stem are available in three finishes — Brass Metallised, Black Metallised, and High Lustre Chrome Plated — each machined from brass and finished to a consistent, considered standard.
- Light source: Max 1 × 33W G9 (not included)
- Shades: Three-layered mouth-blown white opal glass
- Top plate, base & stem: Brass Metallised, Black Metallised, or High Lustre Chrome Plated machined brass
